Need a last-minute date night idea that requires nothing but your phone? Skip scrolling through every other party game — this fast-paced guessing game, inspired by the classic Catchphrase, is it. We gave it our own twist with a love-and-marriage theme and five categories of digital “cards,” so you’ll be laughing with your spouse (and friends) all night long. It’s easy to set up, endlessly replayable, and lives right in your pocket.

The game cards are as cute as can be, and Carisa from Messes to Memories gets all the credit for designing them. She created digital card sets you simply save to your device — plus a clever scorecard. No printing or cutting required.
How to Play This Fun Party Game

- Sit in a circle with members of each team alternating places.
- Set a timer (on another device, or borrow one from a board game).
- The first player gives clues to help their team guess the word or phrase on the card — verbal and visual clues welcome, but no part of the actual word or phrase. The whole team shouts out guesses at once.
- Once the team guesses, pass the device to the next player (on the opposing team), who scrolls to the next card and gives their team clues.
- Get your team to guess fast — whoever’s holding the device when the timer goes off loses the round, and the other team scores a point!
Five Card Categories

There are five categories of phrase cards, so game night can go as long as you like — just play through a category before switching. One standout is the “Personal” category: instead of guessing the exact words, you act out your own answer to the prompt. If the card says “a first dance song,” you might pick “The Way You Look Tonight” and give clues for that. Want it more competitive? Award bonus points if your team also guesses the phrase on the card. Because your answers change every time, the deck never plays the same way twice.
The Saucy “Intimate” Category
Fair warning: one category is a little spicy. Nothing too blush-worthy, but you may want to save the “Intimate” cards for later in the night — or, once your friends head home, keep them going as a flirty follow-up game just for the two of you. If date night is a couples-only affair, it makes a fun bedroom game on its own.
Keep Score With a Wedding-Ring Scorecard

There’s also a printable scorecard that makes tracking the winner easy (not required for a good time, but fun). The clever part: it’s designed to use two wedding rings as the game pieces — no pens or pawns needed. Each time your team wins a round, slide your ring forward one space.
Playing With Just the Two of You
Can’t round up a group? No problem. Modify the game for two — it’s a little less competitive but still a blast. Take turns giving and guessing clues against the clock, and keep your own running score. For more pairs-only fun, pair it with our at-home date night ideas.
Grab the Printable Cards

Every device is a little different, but the cards are just a folder of images, so anyone can download and use them. Save the file to your phone or tablet, open the folder for the category you want, read the instructions on the first card, and start playing. The easiest date night ever, ready in minutes — procrastinating party planners, this one’s for you!

Couples Catchphrase Game FAQs
It’s a fast-paced, catchphrase-inspired guessing game with a love-and-marriage theme. One player gives clues for the word or phrase on a digital card while their team shouts out guesses, then passes the device along — whoever’s holding it when the timer buzzes loses the round. There are five categories, including a flirty ‘Intimate’ one.
Sit with teams alternating, set a timer, and take turns giving clues (no part of the actual word allowed) while your team guesses. Pass the device after each correct guess; the team stuck holding it at the buzzer loses the round. Play through a category, then tally points.
Yes. Modify it for two by taking turns giving and guessing clues against the timer and keeping your own score. It’s a little less competitive but still a fun, quick date night in.
Absolutely — four of the five categories are friend-group friendly. Just save the spicier ‘Intimate’ category for a couples-only crowd or for after your guests leave.
