How to plan your Rockstar Date

1. Send the invite. Set the tone with a trail of rocks leading to the printable invitation — a fun little clue about the night ahead.
2. ROCK it: paint some rocks. Paint your own (tutorial below), or join the fun of your town’s painted-rock craze — many communities have a Facebook group that hides painted river rocks in local parks to find and re-hide.

How to make melted-crayon painted rocks

This is the easiest, most kid-and-couple-friendly way to make gorgeous painted rocks:

1. Head outside and gather rocks — preferably flat on at least one side.
2. Soak them in water to rinse off dirt (and bugs!).
3. Line a baking sheet with foil, set the rocks on it, and heat in the oven at 350°F for about 15 minutes — you just want them hot.
4. Pick your color scheme and unwrap some crayons (they’re cheap, especially around back-to-school time).
5. Pull the rocks out and carefully color your design right onto the hot rock — the crayon melts on like paint. Don’t touch the rocks; they’re hot enough to burn. If a rock cools too much to take color, just pop it back in the oven.
