It’s one thing to feel grateful for your spouse — it’s another to actually tell them, in words, again and again. This simple gratitude journal for couples gives you an easy, meaningful way to do exactly that. You and your spouse take turns writing what you’re thankful for about each other, guided by 14 sweet prompts. It’s a natural fit for November and Thanksgiving, but honestly? Focusing on gratitude is good for your marriage in every season.

Why Keep a Gratitude Journal for Your Spouse
It’s easy to broadcast everything we’re thankful for on social media, but the gratitude that matters most is the kind you share at home, in private, with the person you love. Writing down your appreciation is a powerful form of words of affirmation — and reading why your spouse is grateful for you is just as good for the heart. Consider this your gentle challenge to journal your gratitude for your love!
What You’ll Need
- A plain composition notebook
- The free gratitude journal printables (cover, instructions, and 14 prompts)
- A paper cutter (all the cuts are square, so it’s simple!)
- Glue dots or double-sided tape to adhere everything
- Coordinating scrapbook paper to jazz it up (optional)
How to Make Your Gratitude Journal
Prepping it is wonderfully easy. The gorgeous printables were designed by the most amazing Leah Aldous of January and May.
1. Add the cover. The printable cover fits right on the front of your composition notebook — attach it with a few glue dots and you’re done.

2. Add the instructions. Glue or tape the instructions page to the inside cover. If you have cute scrapbook paper on hand, add a strip along the edges — we faked washi tape with double-sided tape and a little coordinating paper to dress ours up.

How the Journal Works
Inside you’ll find 14 quotes and prompts to inspire you. The idea is to take turns: you answer the first prompt one day, your spouse answers the next, and so on. When your turn comes back around, you get to read why your love is grateful for you (all the heart-eyes!).

Answer one prompt a day and you’ll journal your way right through to Thanksgiving — but there’s no wrong pace. Set whatever schedule works for you, or use the prompts on even days and improvise your own on the odd days. The point is simply to keep building each other up with your words.

Enjoy building your spouse up with words of affirmation — and being built up right back!
