The Ultimate At-Home Date Night Showdown
let the good times roll!
Looking for a date night that’s fun, unique, and doesn’t require a reservation, babysitter, or hours of prep?
Welcome to Sushi Battleship.

This hilarious at-home date night combines takeout sushi, friendly competition, and just enough strategy to keep things interesting.
Get ready to build anticipation, battle for victory, and spend quality time with your favorite person.
Step 1: Send the Invite
Every great date night starts with anticipation.
We’ve created a fun, flirty Sushi Battleship invitation that you can download and text directly to your spouse.
Send it a few days before your date night and let the excitement build all week long.
Trust us- there’s something surprisingly fun about receiving a random text that says:
“You’re My Soy Mate.”
It’s playful. It’s unexpected. And it’s a whole lot more exciting than asking, “Soooo….. what do you want to do Friday night?”

Step 2: Watch the Date in Action
Want to see how the game works before you dive in?
Watch the video below to see Sushi Battleship Date Night in action. You’ll get a quick look at the setup for reference…
Step 3: Pick Up Your Sushi
No cooking required. (Unless you want to turn that into a date too– totally up to you!)
On the day of your date, swing by your favorite sushi restaurant or local grocery store and grab a variety of sushi rolls you both enjoy.
The more variety, the more fun.
California rolls.
Spicy tuna rolls.
Philadelphia rolls.
Dragon rolls.
Whatever makes your sushi-loving hearts happy.
Arrange everything on a platter when you get home and prepare for battle.

Step 4: Prepare the Battlefield
Before your spouse arrives, transform your kitchen table into date night headquarters.
This doesn’t need to be fancy.
Light a few candles.
Turn on your favorite playlist.
Dim the lights.
Pour a drink.
Suddenly your kitchen table feels a whole lot more romantic.
Now it’s time to create your Battleship game boards.
What You’ll Need
- Large sheets of paper or poster board
- Markers or pens
- A piece of cardboard, foam board, or another divider
- Sushi
- Your favorite person
Create Your Grids
Each player needs their own giant Battleship grid.
Along one side, write the numbers:
1–10
Along the other side, write the letters:
A–J
This creates your coordinate system for gameplay.
Place a piece of cardboard between you so neither player can see the other’s board.
Because let’s be honest- marriage is built on trust, but game night can get competitive. 😉

Step 5: Deploy Your Sushi Fleet
Once date night officially begins, each player secretly places their ships on their own grid.
You can use traditional Battleship ship sizes or make it extra fun by giving your fleet sushi-themed names.
Ideas include:
- 🍣 California Cruiser
- 🍣 Spicy Tuna Submarine
- 🍣 Dragon Roll Destroyer
- 🍣 Rainbow Roll Battleship
- 🍣 Crunchy Shrimp Carrier
Your spouse should never know where your fleet is hiding.
The goal is simple:
Sink every one of their ships before they sink yours.
Step 6: Let the Battle Begin
Take turns calling out coordinates.
“B-6!”
“Miss!”
“H-4!”
“Hit!”
Just like classic Battleship, players mark hits and misses on their boards as the game progresses.
The suspense builds with every turn.
The trash talk is optional.
The flirting is highly encouraged. 😏
Step 7: Claim Victory
The first player to sink every ship in their spouse’s fleet wins the battle.
The champion gets to pick dessert AND their favorite bedroom reward. 🔥
(Psssttt… our personal recommendation to end the night is Strip Battleship!)
Make It Even More Fun
Want to take things up a notch?
Try these bonus rules:
Sink a Ship Challenge
Every time a player sinks an entire ship, they must answer a fun relationship question of their spouse’s choosing.
Examples:
- What’s your favorite memory of us?
- When did you first know you were in love with me?
- What’s one thing you’ve appreciated about me lately?
- Where should we go on our next date?
- If you could pick one steamy memory of us to reenact, which one would it be?
Kissing Rule
Any hit earns a kiss before the next turn.
We don’t make the rules.
Actually, we do.
And this one is staying.
Why We Love This Date Night
