Dry Erase Doodles

Looking for a sweet little way to make your spouse smile that takes about 30 seconds and costs nothing? Grab a dry erase marker and leave them a surprise love note — right on the glass of a picture frame or the bathroom mirror. It’s one of our favorite quick, no-prep romantic gestures: easy to do on a busy morning, impossible not to smile at, and endlessly repeatable. Here’s how to make it a habit (plus a big list of note ideas to copy).

Why Dry Erase Love Notes Work

Marriage has a way of slipping to the back burner under dishes, laundry, work, and carpool. The fix isn’t a grand gesture — it’s small, consistent reminders that you’re thinking of each other. A dry-erase note takes less than a minute, surprises your spouse in the middle of an ordinary day, and wipes right off so you can leave a brand-new one tomorrow. Romance doesn’t fade because you run out of time; it fades when you stop giving it — and this is one of the easiest ways to keep giving it.

What You’ll Need

  • A dry erase marker (the fine-tip kind writes best on glass)
  • A glass surface — a framed photo, a mirror, a window, even a glass shower door
  • Ten spare seconds and a little creativity

Where to Leave Your Note

Half the fun is where they find it. A few of our favorite surprise spots:

  • On the glass of a picture frame — the living room, or a small frame on their nightstand
  • The bathroom mirror, so it’s the first thing they see in the morning
  • The car windshield or driver’s window before they leave for work
  • A glass storm/front door they’ll pass on the way out
  • The microwave or glass fridge shelf for a mid-snack surprise

Dry Erase Love Note Ideas to Copy

Not sure what to write? Steal any of these — short and sweet always wins:

  • “Have the best day, handsome/beautiful!”
  • “Reason #472 I love you: you make my coffee just right.”
  • “Thinking about you — can’t wait for tonight.”
  • “You’ve got this today. I believe in you.”
  • “You’re my favorite. That is all.”
  • “Meet me in the kitchen at 9 😉”
  • “Smile — someone is crazy about you (it’s me).”
  • A quick doodle: a big heart, “you + me,” or your initials in a little love-note scribble
  • A countdown: “3 more sleeps until our date!”
  • “Good luck in your meeting today — come home and tell me all about it.”

Dry Erase Love Notes FAQs

What do you write in a dry erase love note?

Keep it short and sweet: a compliment (‘have the best day, handsome!’), a flirty invite (‘meet me in the kitchen at 9’), a specific reason you love them, an encouraging note before a big day, or a little doodled heart. The surprise matters more than the words.

What surface can you use for dry erase love notes?

Any smooth glass or mirror works great: the glass of a picture frame, the bathroom mirror, a window, the car windshield, or a glass door. Dry erase marker wipes right off these surfaces with a dry cloth.

Does dry erase marker come off glass and mirrors?

Yes. Dry erase marker wipes cleanly off glass, mirrors, and other non-porous surfaces with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Avoid porous surfaces like wood or painted walls, where it can stain, and do a small test first if you’re unsure.

Why are little love notes good for marriage?

Small, frequent gestures remind your spouse they’re a priority, even on busy days. Love grows when you keep giving it, and a 30-second surprise note is one of the easiest, most consistent ways to keep the romance alive.

  1. My fiancee and I have something similar, except i took scrapbook paper and decorated it. It says “I love you because…” and I stuck it in a frame. Then there is plenty of room for us to leave notes for each other on the glass 🙂 I like that yours includes a picture though! It’s really cute!!

  2. I just found this site and I LOVE it! I surprised my husband last weekend with a date night and he was so excited! It seems like forever since we took time for just us. I’ve been pinning your ideas like crazy. Can’t wait for the next date night. I’m off to write a love note on the mirror. 😉 Thanks so much for the ideas!

  3. Such a cute idea, I also like doing it on the bathroom mirror because I know that he will see it in the morning. I can’t always be sure he will see the picture frame.

    1. The bathroom mirror is always a good idea. Maybe you could do both and see how long it takes him to notice the picture frame. 😉 (Or do ALL the pictures frames in the house- ha ha)

  4. My husband and I have an actual white erase board in our bedroom that we use for this purpose exactly. We write love notes to or about each other all the time. Sometimes they aren’t exactly PG but its the thought that counts right 🙂 I love coming home from a bad day at work and seeing a love note from him on our board and knowing that he did without any input from me!

  5. This is the BEST idea ever!!! I need some dry erase markers! Shoot…I just had a thought…my kids LOVE to write on the walls. I better keep this hidden from them and just for daddy!
