Basket of “Healthy” Love

Looking for a quick, sweet, and genuinely healthy way to spoil your spouse? A “Basket of Healthy Love” is one of the easiest romantic gifts you can put together — a simple fruit basket where every piece of fruit comes with a punny little love note attached. It’s inexpensive, it’s thoughtful, and it’s perfect for the health-conscious sweetheart who could still use a little pampering. Bonus: it’s a wonderful pick-me-up for the week after the holidays, when everyone’s had quite enough chocolate.

Why This Gift Works

The magic isn’t the fruit — it’s the words. Pairing each piece with a silly, affectionate note turns an ordinary grocery run into a heartfelt gift that says “I was thinking about you.” It’s quick to assemble, budget-friendly, and a great way to show appreciation for a spouse who works hard for your family. If your sweetheart is a “health nut” who side-eyes the dessert aisle, this is a treat they can actually feel good about.

What You’ll Need

  • A handful of your spouse’s favorite fruits (grapes, banana, apple, orange, and pear are a classic mix)
  • A bowl or basket — use one you already own, or grab an inexpensive cute basket
  • Ribbon, twine, or string
  • Small paper tags or cardstock (plus a pen) for your love notes

How to Make Your Basket of Healthy Love

  • Pick your fruit. Choose five or six favorites — a colorful mix looks the prettiest in the basket.
  • Write your notes. Jot a punny love note for each piece of fruit (ideas below!), or print your own tags.
  • Attach them. Tie each tag to its fruit with a bit of ribbon or string.
  • Arrange and gift. Nestle everything in the basket and leave it where your sweetheart will find it. That’s it — wa-la!

Punny Fruit Love Notes to Copy

Stuck on what to write? Steal these fruity one-liners — they’re cheesy in the best way:

  • Banana: “I’m absolutely bananas for you!”
  • Grapes: “I love you a bunch — you’re so grape!”
  • Apple: “You’re the apple of my eye.”
  • Orange: “Orange you glad you married me?”
  • Pear: “We make the perfect pair.”
  • Strawberries: “I love you berry much!”
  • Cantaloupe/Melon: “You’re one in a melon.”

    1. Oh Elizabeth-I am so glad that you like this idea. It’s sometimes hard to find healthy ways to let your spouse know you love them. I’m happy you appreciate this. Hope it works out for you!

  1. I love this idea! My husband sounds very similar to yours and I think he would love this. It’s always nice to feel appreciated, especially when it’s random. I am going to go get fruit to make him a fruit basket today. I’m excited and I think he will love it!

    1. Lyla- I am so glad that you have a healthy hubby too :). I don’t want to be the only wife out there with one. LOL I hope that the fruit basket turned out cute! Thanks for your comment!

  2. Perfect and darling printable to easily prepare a fun & healthy snack that says I love you. Win/Win/Win!

    THanks for sharing!

  3. My hubby is the exact same way. We will go out to eat and I will order a nice juicy steak and he will order a salad with no dressing. Weirdo. And I am totally in the same boat, pregnant and craving sugar like crazy! I chew bubble gum all the time. And he looks at me and asks so nicely why I am eating so much candy and sweets, but I can’t help it! This will be the perfect thing for him! 🙂

    1. @JOrdan- I am SO glad that you understand my predicament while being pregnant. It’s so hard to get mad at them when they drop these hints so NICELY! Grrr!!! I’m also glad that your hubby will appreciate this as much as mine did.

  4. Although my husband is not what you’d, or anyone for that matter;), would call a ‘health nut’, i know he’d love this! We recently moved to the Middle East and it has been an adventure (and less expensive) to eat out at all the wonderful resturaunts but of course we both have gained weight. We talked this morning about starting off the New Year eating better and working out together and this idea would be a perfect way to kick it off! Thank You!

    1. @Nonnie- well what a perfect time to give him a healthy, yet cute gift. Maybe one of your New Year’s resolutions could be that you eat more fresh fruit :). Good luck!
