Some seasons, a big getaway just isn’t happening. The budget is tight, the calendar is packed, or you can’t line up a sitter for three days. But the two of you still need a break from real life, and from being roommates who coordinate carpools.
That’s exactly why we made the Perfect Staycation Kit: a printable, done-for-you plan for a romantic couples staycation at home. Invitation, bucket list, itinerary, love coupons, and a set of couples-only activities for after bedtime. All you add is the time off. And it’s just $10.

What Is a Couples Staycation?
A couples staycation is a mini vacation the two of you take without traveling far, usually at home or somewhere close by. You block off the time like a real trip, set an out-of-office, skip the chores, and fill the days (or one long night) with the things you’d do on vacation: sleeping in, eating well, trying something new, and focusing on each other.
The difference between a staycation and “just a weekend at home” is the planning. Without a plan, a staycation turns into laundry and errands by Saturday afternoon. With one, it feels like a getaway.
Why a Staycation Is Great for Your Marriage
- It costs a fraction of a trip. No flights, no hotel, no rental car. Spend the savings on one really nice dinner instead.
- No travel stress. No packing, no airport lines, no losing a whole day to driving. More of your time off is actually time together.
- It works any time of year. A summer backyard getaway, a cozy fall weekend, a winter “ski lodge” by the fireplace, or an anniversary you couldn’t travel for.
- It reconnects you. When life gets busy, couples drift into logistics mode. A planned getaway, even at home, puts the focus back on the two of you.

The Staycation Invitation
Kick things off by formally inviting your spouse on vacation. Leave it on their pillow, tuck it in their work bag, or tape it to the bathroom mirror. A real invitation turns “let’s stay home this weekend” into “we’re going on a trip.” We also included a page of tips to help your staycation actually feel like time off.

Getaway Bucket List and Itinerary
Sit down together and dream up your staycation. Read through our cheap vacation ideas, add your own, and circle your favorites. Then map it out on the itinerary so you leave room for both adventures and lazy mornings. Planning it together is half the fun.

Vacation Love Coupons
Vacations are all about being pampered. Treat your spouse to a little resort-style luxury with our Vacation Love Coupons, including a steamy set that’s just for the two of you. (There’s also a bonus set for the kids, if they’ll be around for part of your staycation.)

Staycation Postcards
Sending postcards is a classic travel tradition. Write one to each other about your favorite moment of the day, or mail one to friends and family with a cheeky update from “paradise.” They also make a sweet keepsake to tuck away after your getaway is over.

A Romantic Getaway Playlist
Music is the fastest way to make home feel like somewhere else. Build a playlist together before your staycation, turn it up, and pretend you’re back on your honeymoon. Need a starting point? Here are some of our favorite beachy love songs:
- Lucky – Jason Mraz & Colbie Caillat
- Bubbly – Colbie Caillat
- Kokomo – The Beach Boys
- Banana Pancakes – Jack Johnson
- Come Away With Me – Norah Jones
- The Way I Am – Ingrid Michaelson
- Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me – She & Him
- I’m Yours – Jason Mraz
- Seaside – The Kooks
- Better Together – Jack Johnson
- Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Israel Kamakawiwo’ole
Want a playlist for later in the evening? Our steamy songs playlist picks up where this one leaves off. 😉

Couples-Only Activities {for After Bedtime!}
Every great getaway needs a little grown-up time. Once the day winds down, heat up the night with the kit’s intimate couples games and steamy bedroom suggestions. This is the part of the vacation that’s just for the two of you.

How to Plan a Couples Staycation in 5 Steps
1. Pick Your Dates and Protect Them
Treat it like a real trip. Request the time off, set an out-of-office message, and put it on the calendar. A long weekend is perfect, but even a single overnight works. If you have kids, line up grandparents or a sleepover for at least one night.
2. Pick a Theme
Tropical beach, cozy cabin, Paris café, luxury spa resort. A theme makes choosing food, music, and activities easy, and it makes the whole thing feel more like a destination.
3. Prep Before “Check-In”
Clean the house, do the laundry, and stock the fridge before your staycation starts, so chores don’t creep in. Fresh sheets, a few candles, and a stocked snack basket go a long way toward a hotel feel.
4. Plan Together, but Leave Room to Rest
Use the bucket list and itinerary to pick one or two “outings” per day, then leave plenty of open time. The best part of vacation is not having anywhere to be.
5. Set a Few Vacation Rules
No work email. No bills. No “while we’re home, we should just…” projects. Agree on your rules before you start, and keep phones away during meals.
